Traditionally, the Berguedà has been one of the most agricultural counties of Catalonia. However, in the recent decades, farming and stockbreeding have progressively lost weight in the country and, in the north part, they have virtually disappeared.   The farming community has made en enormous effort to adapt to the new circumstances, seeking new activities to supplement their family income and enable them to continue preserving the cultural heritage of their ancestral homes. Rural tourism has been one such supplement. In our country, the Associació d’Agroturisme del Berguedà was formed in 1993 by a group of country women who wished to share with others the values of rural life and occupations and the cultural wealth of the houses that are their homes.
